About Post 64
American Legion Post 64, an integral part of the renowned American Legion, is a patriotic veteran’s organization dedicated to serving veterans, servicemembers, and communities. Established in 1919 by war-weary veterans of World War I, the Legion has become one of the most influential nonprofit groups in the country. With a membership of nearly 2 million and 13,000 posts worldwide, the Legion continues its impactful work. It advocates for veterans’ benefits, drives social change, and implements impactful programs for children and youth.

The Ahwatukee Community
he Ahwatukee community takes up 35.8 square miles and is located in south Phoenix. It is bordered on the north by South Mountain Park, on the south by the Gila River Indian reservation, on the east by Interstate 10 and on the west by state owned land. At one point, there were 32 gold and silver mines registered in this area.
In 1921, Dr. W.V.B. Ames, a dentist and inventor, bought 2,000+ acres from the state and built a residence. It was known to locals as "the castle," then called "Casa de Suenos" or "House of Dreams". In 1935, Helen Brinton bought a portion of the land and named it Ahwatukee (AH-WA-TOO-KEE), a Crow Indian word for "House of Dreams". In the late 1950's, International Harvester purchased acreage south of the mountain to use as a proving ground. Presley Development purchased most of the original ranch land in 1971 and opened the

The area including Ahwatukee, Mountain Park Ranch and The Foothills was renamed "Ahwatukee Foothills Village" in 1991. Today, as one of the fastest growing areas, its population now stands at more than 88,500. Residents have one of the highest incomes, averaging $96,700 per household and enjoy many
amenities including great weather, plenty of sunshine, gorgeous landscapes, golf courses, miles of trails and South Mountain Park (one of the largest city parks in the United States) it's easy to see why the community has grown so quickly.
The Kyrene Elementary School District, Tempe High School District, numerous preschools, charter schools and private schools provide educational services to area children. Adult extension classes are offered through neighboring universities and community colleges.
Real estate values are diversified from moderately priced one-bedroom condominiums to multi-million-dollar homes. The area also includes an active retirement community."

Color Guard & Honor Guard
Ahwatukee Post 64’s Color Guard takes immense pride in their role of leading the Ahwatukee Community Annual Easter Day Parade. Their exceptional dedication and commitment have also earned them the privilege of presenting the Colors at local schools within the Community. The Color Guard showcased their unwavering patriotism by participating in the annual Memorial Day event held at the state Veteran’s Cemetery. Over the years, the Color Guard of American Legion Post 64 has humbly paid tribute to fallen service members or veterans by presenting the flag and colors. The American Legion Post 64 cherishes the invaluable contributions and unwavering dedication of its Color Guard.
Veterans Helping Veterans
At American Legion Post 64, our motto is “Veterans Helping Veterans.” We are deeply committed to assisting veterans in our community and beyond, recognizing and honoring the selfless sacrifices they have made. Veterans always go above and beyond for their brothers and sisters, surpassing the actions of most people for their own friends. This year, our renewed focus is to demonstrate to the community what we, as a collective, can achieve for our esteemed veteran comrades. We wholeheartedly invite you to join us in making a genuine difference and providing unwavering support to our brave veterans.
Auxiliary Unit 64 Charter
The Auxiliary Unit 64, chartered by the American Legion Post 64 in 2023, is an independent unit comprised of spouses, parents, siblings, or children of veterans. If you are related to a veteran in any of these ways, you are eligible to join. The Auxiliary has been instrumental in supporting our post. They are an essential pillar of support for our post, diligently organizing fundraisers, hosting meetings, and providing overall assistance. As members of our family, they have empathetically shared our pain and grief, while serving as a reliable support system for our veterans. We are immensely grateful to have Unit 64 as part of our post as we continue to grow.
Adopt-A-Street Clean up
American Legion Post 64 has been an integral part of the city of Phoenix’s clean streets initiative, fostering strong community engagement among local businesses. With great honor, we have been entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining the Warner/Elliot Loop for several consecutive years. Our dedicated post members diligently participate in quarterly cleanups, meticulously walking both sides of the street to ensure the removal of all types of litter along our beloved community’s main route. Together, through our unwavering collective efforts, we strive to preserve the pristine beauty of our cherished community.
